Ernest Cline has never seen a movie quite like Spielberg's Ready Player One

Image
As I've never read the Ernest Cline novel on which Steven Spielberg's upcoming READY PLAYER ONE is based, I've never been entirely sure what to expect, but what we've seen so far looks absolutely bonkers in the best way possible, like a pop-culture explosion. It remains to be seen what the general public will think of Spielberg's latest, but Ernest Cline... Read More... from JoBlo's Movie Emporium News http://ift.tt/2BWKGPx

ILM videos take us behind the VFX magic of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Image
Like every other STAR WARS film before it, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI contains its fair share of outstanding visual effects crafted by Industrial Light & Magic. From the opening bombing-run battle against the First Order Dreadnought to Supreme Leader Snoke's (Andy Serkis) leering face, you can find evidence of ILM's handiwork in just about every shot of the film, and the VFX... Jennifer Lawrence Slams 'Phantom Thread': 'I Got Through About 3 Minutes of It'

Image
The Queen of Oversharing is on a streak. Jennifer Lawrence always gives candid interviews, and with "Red Sparrow" heading to theaters Friday, March 2, she is everywhere right now, saying everything ... whether she should or not. Her latest target is a bit of left field choice: Paul Thomas Anderson 's movie "Phantom Thread." It is nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis in what's billed as his final acting role. Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar winner for "Silver Linings Playbook," and she gets to vote for the 2018 Best Picture. But not only did she not care to vote for "Phantom Thread," she didn't even watch it. Here's what she told Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast (via IndieWire ): "I got through about three minutes of it. I put in a good solid three. I'm sorry to anybody who loved that movie," Lawrence said. "I couldn't give that kind of ti...

Fox Developing Silver Surfer Standalone, Among Other Marvel Films, & Fans Are Annoyed

Image
Despite the looming merger with Disney/Marvel Studios, 20th Century Fox is "going 100 miles per hour" with multiple "X-Men" movies and other Marvel-led projects in the coming year. "We actually have way more in development and production in Marvel IP than at any point in the history of the studio," a Fox insider told The Hollywood Reporter . "There's been zero slowdown on that front given Disney." THR said Fox has several films in development to further develop the "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" brands. A Silver Surfer standalone movie is being written by comic book and TV writer Brian K. Vaughan. (Hey, remember the 2007 movie "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." Apologies if you'd rather forget.) And a Doctor Doom movie is in the works from Noah Hawley ("Fargo," "Legion"). There are two "X-Men" movies coming out this year -- "Deadpool 2" and "X-Men: Da...

Say Goodbye to Productivity: Netflix Set to Stream 700 Original Series and Movies in 2018

Image
Over the past few years, Netflix has had the ambitious goal to double its original content output annually. Well, it appears that that plan has no intention of slowing down, with executives from the streaming giant revealing that they will offer a staggering number of original series and movies in 2018. During an appearance at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference on Tuesday, Netflix CFO David Wells revealed that the service would stream approximately 700 different TV and film offerings that have been made exclusively for Netflix during this calendar year. According to Wells, the service's ever-expanding original content library is the largest driving force behind signing new subscribers, and the company currently has about 111.6 million paying customers worldwide. That's good news for Wells and co., since Netflix's lavish spending on acquiring top-tier talent (reportedly in the $8 billion range) has certainly raised some eyebrows in recent year...

Adam Sandler & Chris Rock battle over wedding plans in The Week Of trailer

Netflix seems quite pleased to be devoting a slice of its empire to Adam Sandler, even signing the actor to another four-picture deal last year, but reactions to films like THE RIDICULOUS 6, THE DO-OVER, and SANDY WEXLER haven't exactly been kind, although that certainly doesn't stop people from watching them. When compared to those movies, Sandler's upcoming THE WEEK OF actually looks...decent, or at the very least, it comes across as a more grounded story with...
